Seven steps to Cover Letter success

Your cover letter is your first chance to get your reader interested

It's like a sales document that is intended to persuade employers to be interested in you but what will really hook them?

  1. Always include your name and contact details in case your cover letter and CV get separated;
  2. Address your reader by name – never To whom in may concern;
  3. Demonstrate your confidence, enthusiasm and self-belief in the first sentence. Make your reader want to know more about you;
  4. Don't start your sentences with I. Remember, this letter is for the employer, not for you;
  5. Never go over one page;
  6. Triple-check your spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  7. Treat the job description like a question and match your skills and experiences with the job requirements. Include keywords where possible.
